Matt Penney

Matt Penney,
PT, DPT, ATC

Matt is the owner of Advanced Sports Therapy LLC while also the owner of Sports Rehabilitation Unlimited LLC in Middleton, MA. He is a licensed physical therapist and athletic trainer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Biology from Tufts University, a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from Columbia University and a Doctor Degree in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University.

Matt is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), American Association of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy (AAOMPT) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Matt has trained extensively in the Maitland-Australian Physiotherapy Approach to manual and manipulative therapy. He has his Level 1 Certification in Blood Flow Restriction Training from Smart Tools.  

Matt and the staff at AST provide injury assessment, injury prevention and rehabilitation services for the Dreamfar High School Marathon Team, a locally-based organization dedicated to supporting athletes in marathon training and development.

Matt is also a published author in the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Practice, Sports Medicine Arthroscopy Review and International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health journals.

Scott Kuhn

Scott Kuhn,
PT, MS, ATC

Scott is a graduate of The Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training and Master's Degree in Physical Therapy. He is licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as both a physical therapist and certified athletic trainer, and is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the APTA of Massachusetts.

Scott performs duties in the Wellesley clinic as the clinic manager while also coordinating the clinical education for students at Advanced Sports Therapy. While Scott has worked with many collegiate and professional athletes thought his career, he enjoys treating patients of all ages; including adolescent athletes who are trying to improve their sports performance or recover from an injury, as well as seniors hoping to become more active and/or maintain their independence.

He has received advanced training in spinal mobilization and manipulation through a series of Maitland post-graduate educational courses. Scott has also completed the Foundation and Advanced Courses for Integrative Dry Needling and utilizes dry needling to treat a variety of neuromuscular and pain related disorders. Scott is trained in fitting patients for both ALine Performance Insoles and Foot Management custom orthotics.  In addition, Scott received his Level 1 Certification in Blood Flow Restriction Training from Smart Tools.

Scott is a published author in Sports Medicine Arthroscopic Review and Centerpoint Magazine.

Kanella Karatasakis

Kanella Karatasakis,
PT, MS

Kanella is a staff senior physical therapist who previously worked at Advanced Sports Therapy and recently rejoined the group. Kanella graduated from Northeastern University with a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy. She has over 15 years of professional experience treating acute and chronic orthopedic injuries.

Kanella practiced at Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy at Tufts Medical Center for seventeen years which provided her with exposure to a variety of patients, diagnoses, and treatments. She has gained abundant experience working with the Tufts Orthopedic department and enjoyed being part of the multidisciplinary team.

Outside of the clinic, Kanella enjoys Pilates, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

Charlotte Russell

Charlotte Russell,
PT, DPT

Charlotte is a staff physical therapist who recently transitioned from another local, outpatient, Sports Physical Therapy clinic. Knowing she wanted to pursue a career in the field immediately after earning her Bachelor's Degree in Public Health and Psychology at Vanderbilt University, Charlotte graduated with a Doctor Degree in Physical Therapy from Emory University in 2021. As a physical therapy patient throughout high school and college for various injuries, she gained valuable experience working with the women’s soccer team at Vanderbilt in the Athletic Training room, enjoying treating athletes in and out of season for return to sport training. 

Charlotte is certified in Dry Needling and Blood Flow Restriction Training, and is looking forward to taking more courses in advanced levels of Dry Needling, Blood Flow Restriction Training and Manual Therapy. She enjoys working with middle school and high school athletes in improving their functional mechanics and helping them return to play, but has worked with patients from age 6 to 96. In her free time, Charlotte enjoys playing tennis, lacrosse, traveling, and playing with her puppy Archie.

Brittany Lee

Brittany Lee,
PT, DPT, CSCS

Brittany is a staff physical therapist who has been practicing outpatient orthopedic and sports physical therapy since 2021. Brittany graduated from Boston University with a Bachelors Degree in Health Studies and a Doctor of Physical Therapy. She is also certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Brittany has clinical experience in outpatient and acute care orthopedic settings. She has treated a variety of patients with different diagnoses and backgrounds. She believes in utilizing a patient-centered approach utilizing manual therapy and exercise in order to help patients reach their goals.

Outside of the clinic, Brittany has a passion for figure skating. She coaches figure skating and trains figure skaters in off-ice conditioning programs. Her interests outside of work include figure skating, running, listening to podcasts, and spending time with friends and family.

Alice O'Connor

Alice O'Connor,
PT, DPT, CSCS

Alice is a dedicated staff physical therapist, recently earning her Doctorate in Physical Therapy with a focus on Sports from Northeastern University. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a minor in coaching from Lasell University and is a certified Strength and Conditioning Coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, along with a Level 1 certification from the United States Weightlifting. Alice's experience spans various settings, including in-patient and out-patient, where she has worked with individuals of all ages and activity levels. She has exposure to therapeutic techniques such as dry needling, blood flow restriction therapy, aquatic therapy, functional capacity exams, active release techniques, and training from the postural restoration institute. Eager to grow, she looks forward to pursuing additional certifications in these areas.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Alice has a background as a synchronized figure skater from 2017 to 2020, representing the Skating Club of New York and Team USA as a three-time World Team member. During her free time, she enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle, exploring new destinations, and sharing culinary experiences with her fiancé. Alice's commitment to personal and professional development underscores her genuine passion for promoting health and well-being.

Lynda Stockwell

Lynda Stockwell,
Office Manager and Billing Coordinator

Lynda Stockwell is the Office and Billing Manager in Wellesley. She is responsible for all aspects of patient registration, insurance information, billing procedures and office management. After graduating from Bucknell University with a bachelor's degree in Economics, Lynda spent many years working in the property and casualty insurance industry for companies both large and small. She brings to us a wealth of business experience and insurance industry knowledge. She has taken classes in medical billing and coding and earned a certification in medical coding. Lynda also brings a unique perspective on the patient experience. Lynda was initially introduced to the company as a patient in the Boston clinic. After expressing her love of sports and her interest in helping others, she was encouraged to join the company. Lynda will be involved in all business aspects of the Wellesley clinic.

Tainah Santiago

Tainah Santiago,
Receptionist

Tainah is an undergraduate student at Southern New Hampshire University, where she is a full time student studying to become a social worker. She is our Front Desk Specialist where she is responsible for providing customer service to patients while also performing administrative tasks to promote clinic operations efficiency. Tainah enjoys being able to assist others, which allows her to work passionately with patients who are beginning and continuing their journey toward a great recovery from their injury or surgery. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and cooking.

Kelly Cappitella

Kelly Cappitella,
Physical Therapy Aide

Kelly started working at Advanced Sports Therapy in 2019 as an intern while attending Lasell University and playing collegiate volleyball. After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science in 2020, Kelly decided to pursue her passion for helping people and was hired as a full-time Physical Therapy Aide. Her time at AST has only further solidified her love for physical therapy and plans to continue her education to obtain a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. Kelly plays an integral role work with patients in the clinic as well as performing administrative duties as a receptionist at the front desk. When she isn't working, Kelly enjoys spending time with her family, taking dance lessions, snowboarding and playing recreational volleyball.
